Carol’s Closet

Carol’s Closet is a drop center created for the surrounding community and clients of The NorthShore Community Alliance. Carol’s Closet was created in order to help families get simple household items, clothing, shoes and toys for their families. There is a supply of clothing for infants, toddlers, children and adults. NCA prides itself on having good quality merchandise that has been donated by other in the community. NCA strives to help those in the community who are trying to better their lives and the lives of their families.

Dollar Energy Fund

NCA is a screening agency for the Dollar Energy Fund. If you meet income guidelines and have the required documents, you can receive up to $500 from the Dollar Energy Fund to help pay your utility bills.  Call 412-322-7400 ext. 501 to schedule an appointment.  You must have the following documents:

  • Proof of income for the last 30 days for all adults 18 & over  living in the household
  • Social security cards for everyone in the household
  • Termination and/or shut off notice
  • Most recent bill
  • Proof of payment for $150 made to the utility company within the last 30 days or three (3) consecutive CAP payments.

Workforce Development Program

The goal of The NorthShore Community Alliance’s (NCA) Workforce Development Program is to transition recipients from public assistance to self-sufficiency through job skills training and gainful employment.  NCA’s Workforce Development Program is the North Shore’s welfare reform initiative that can be potentially funded by the Allegheny County Department of Human Services, providing support services to economically disadvantaged individuals receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits.  The services provided under this program include case management; abilities, interests and skills assessments; life skills and job skills training; and, employment and career services.

Income Tax Return Program

NCA along with The Benefit Bank offers a free basic income tax filing program by appointment only.  If your income is $54,000.00 or less you can have your taxes done and e-filed for free!  This program is for basic tax filers.  We do not do business taxes, self employed filers, or filers that itemize.  Last year NCA raised over $1000.00 for our senior & youth programs from donations from people that had their taxes prepared by NCA.  Our program runs from the middle of January to April 15th by appointment only!
